Top 5 Suites at Sea

With their gorgeously designed interiors, furnishings and over-the-top amenities, there’s no doubt that luxury cruise suites are some of the most extravagant accommodations at sea. Cruise suites are superb for a variety of reasons, including their elegant ambience, fun tech toys, lavish bathrooms, walk-in closets, and extra services such butlers and concierges. If you’re ready to enjoy the “suite” life, here are some luxe suites that come highly recommended by our travel professionals…

The Haven | by Norwegian
A ship-within-a-ship reserved exclusively for Norwegian Cruise Line’s discerning guests, The Haven by Norwegian is a private world of luxury at sea. Found aboard all of Norwegian’s Jewel Class ships, Norwegian Epic, along with Norwegian Breakaway coming this year and Norwegian Getaway in 2014, the Haven’s residential-style accommodations are some of the most indulgent at sea. Accommodations include a variety of multi-bedroom villas, penthouses and suites. Guests of The Haven have exclusive access to the Courtyard, a private enclave perched at the top of the ship offering quiet places to dine, drink and relax. This tranquil area offers a private pool, fitness area and sundeck. In addition to 24-hour butler service and having the entire ship to explore, Haven guests receive priority embarkation, disembarkation and boarding of tenders to shore.

Owner’s Suites | Silversea
The name says it all. The two Owner’s Suites aboard Silversea Cruises’ Silver Spirit are prestigious and classic, and appear more like stylish, big city apartments than cruise ship suites. Walk in and you’ll hear soft music playing from an über-cool Bang & Olufsen stereo system in the living room and see expansive glass doors leading to a huge teak verandah. Including the balcony, each of these spacious suites measures in at a whopping 1,292 square feet and is adorned in blonde wood, impeccable furniture, a separate dining room, and a master bedroom with a queen-size bed, down duvet and a selection of nine types of pillows. The master bathroom has marble throughout with a double vanity, shower and separate full-size whirlpool tub. A powder room is available, should you care to share your special digs with guests.

Penthouse Suites | Celebrity Cruises
Celebrity Cruises Penthouse Suites are truly fabulous and romantic. If you’re lucky enough to book one of these pads you’ll enjoy a well-designed space with a living room, plush furniture, hardwood floors, 52-inch TV, a baby grand piano and 398-square-foot verandah. You’ll also have a separate dining room that can accommodate up to eight, a master bedroom with a king-size bed and adjoining marble bath with double vanities, a humongous shower for two with dual showerheads and separate whirlpool tub. Two of these suites can be found on each of Celebrity Cruises’ Solstice-class ships (Eclipse, Equinox, Reflection, Silhouette, Solstice). You’ll also be indulged with finest European-style butler service. This includes assistance with unpacking and packing, in-suite lunch and dinner service, afternoon tea, evening hors d’oeuvres, and complimentary in-suite espresso and cappuccino from Café al Bacio.

Royal Loft Suites | Royal Caribbean
The two-story Royal Loft Suites on Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas are the kind of hip places where you might expect to find James Bond relaxing on the living room sofa, nursing a martini. At 1,599 square feet (not counting the 874-square-foot balcony), these suites can accommodate up to six passengers very comfortably. Of particular interest is a stunning two-story-high wall of windows that affords panoramic views. The master bedroom is upstairs in the loft with a glass wall partition and blackout curtains. An adjoining bathroom features a tub, shower, dual sinks and a bidet. A second bath with a shower is found on the main level. The Royal Loft Suites feature baby grand pianos, indoor and outdoor dining rooms, wet bars, libraries and oh so much more!

Grand Suites | Princess Cruises
The little known Grand Suites aboard Princess Cruises’ Sapphire Princess, Diamond Princess and Caribbean Princess are quite a find — if you can lay your hands on one. So elusive are these suites that there is just one on each ship. With gigantic verandahs and elegant furnishings, the Grand Suites combines modern technology with old-world luxury in a lovely 1,329 square-foot space. Included are a bedroom with a queen-size bed and sumptuous bedding, a walk-in closet, bathroom with tub and multi-jet shower, a separate sitting room with a sofa and fireplace, and a private balcony. A hot tub can be accessed from both the bedroom and balcony. Three televisions, a refrigerator and wet bar, dining table for six, and loads of other amenities and services are also available.
