A Museum for Every Season in NYC
By Malia Vrooman
New York City is world-renowned for its great art museums and cultural hotspots, so whether you’re interested in a specific
region, time period or artistic genre, there’s a museum to be found. Families, art buffs and the simply curious will have no
shortage of artwork at which to marvel in the Big Apple. Here are just a few of the city’s most diverse museums…and we’re
just scratching the canvas!

SO MUCH ART, SO LITTLE TIME
A must-see is the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Just approaching the massive staircase to enter this impressive example of neoclassical architecture will take your breath away. Originally built in 1880, it spans several city blocks. Once inside, your artistic choices vary greatly. The permanent collection offers works of art from classical antiquity andAncient Egypt. There are paintings and sculptures from nearly all the European masters, as well as an extensive collection of American and modern art. The Met also maintains extensive examples of African, Asian, Oceanic, Byzantine and Islamic art. Other interesting collections are musical instruments, costumes and accessories, and antique weapons and armor from around the world. In addition to its permanent exhibitions, the Met also organizes and hosts large traveling shows throughout the year. You can easily spend an entire day and not see it all!
